What do you do and why do you do it?
I work in marketing for a utility data startup. While utility data may not sound like the sexiest of jobs, it's actually able to help with everything from managing and reducing energy consumption to supporting sustainability reporting, and even providing new sources of credit to underserved immigrants and young adults. Every day at my job, I get to develop my passion for sustainability and learn new skills at the same time.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
The songs that have gotten me through many a hard time are Taro by alt-J, Ultralight Beam by Kanye West, and (No One Knows Me) Like the Piano by Sampha. But when someone has broken my heart, the best thing to do is have a solo dance party to Changing of the Seasons by Two Door Cinema Club and let all the toxic emotions go.
What are the best TV shows of all time?
The Office, Rick and Morty, Sense8, Sherlock, Stranger Things
Name some spots in Atlanta that are good for a Tinder date.
Fernbank After Dark is a great date night, but it only takes place on the second Friday of every month. The Fernbank museum opens up for an adults-only night of science exhibits, cocktails, and live music. My Parents' Basement is goofy one; it's a comic book bar with retro arcade games, board games, and Tetris-shaped tater tots. I'll also take a walk on the basic side sometimes and meet a date for coffee or a cocktail at Condesa Coffee and then walk to Jackson Street Bridge to watch the sunset.
Who’s your hero and where in Atlanta would you take them out for a serious hang?
This wouldn't actually be possible in real life because he's no longer with us, but I would love to have a serious hang with John B. McLemore (as featured in the S-Town podcast). I'd take him to the Goat Farm, because he'd feel at home on a farm with the goats, donkeys, and llamas. We'd get a cup of coffee and just sit and chat on one of the Farm's bench swings.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
TBH I get most of my clothes from Nordstrom Rack, but it's also fun to go thrifting in Little Five Points or at Buffalo Exchange.
What’s the most expensive restaurant / spa / hotel you’ve ever been to in Atlanta? How much did it cost and what did you get there?
The most expensive restaurant I've been to is Bacchanalia. I believe it cost around $180 for a six-course dinner for two and a bottle of wine, which is really not that expensive at all. The restaurant operates on a farm-to-table principle, with only the freshest of locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. You don't get any choice on the menu, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're willing to settle in and let the chef amaze you with whatever strikes his fancy, this is the place for you.
What restaurant in Atlanta looks crap, but the food’s amazing?
El Taco Veloz on Buford Highway looks so small that it might not have the capacity to serve quality food, but it's incredible. Authentic, corn tortilla tacos are $2 each, and their horchata is unbeatable.
Where can you get the best cocktail in Atlanta? Which one do you like?
Kimball House serves this incredible French 75 cocktail with cognac. It's a cute little restaurant in a
What’s the one place you think is overrated in Atlanta?
The World of Coca-Cola. None of this applies if you happen to be a Coca-Cola addict like I know many people are, but in my opinion, it's a bit of a rip-off to go and pay to be advertised to for hours. You get to taste soda products from all over the world, which is cool, but pretty soon they all start to taste the same.
