a bit about Maty

What are you working on these days?

I´m a graphic designer, photographer and painter.

What drives you mad these days?

Any inhumane behaviour.

What makes you happy?

I´m a happy person and I don´t have anything to complain about in my life, so I find happiness everywhere I go.

When was the last time you cried?

In front of a painting of Nestor de la Torre, in his museum.

What’s your latest musical obsession?

Grant Green, Octave One, Nicolas Jaar, Coleman Hawkins, etc. I actually don´t walk with my earphones on, but I love to work and paint with music on.

What was the last movie you watched? Was it any good?

Mars. Im keen of films but I rather watch them in my sofa, nowadays movies are not what they used to be, now it’s just about make a hit to make money, not about art.

When it’s time for a new wardrobe, where do you go?

Mostly second hand shops or second hand markets, as Humana, Mochiti, Flamingo, Encants. They are normally my spots to get clothes.

What’s your go-to café in Barcelona?

Federal, Santan´s Corner, Granja Petit Bo. Love the coffee from this three places, they have the perfect body and flavor, really creamy is how I like coffee.

What’s your favorite street or neighborhood to wander through?

I love Borne, it´s a district belong to Ciudad Vella, full of little and old streets where you can find amazing bars, restaurants shops and museums. Full of squares where you can sit in a bench to see the people pass and enjoy the sun.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in Barcelona but never actually do?

Walk by the beach promenade!!! I actually love it, I love the sea and to be closed to the beach, I´m an island girl.

Who’s your hero (dead or alive) and where would you take them to show them a good time?

My heros? My parents, I will take them first for a walk around Montjuic and we will have lunch there, at la Foixarda and after lunch to see the horses there too. Then We will go to Bunkers of Carmel to show them a Panoramic view of Barcelona city, and to finish the day, We will go to Maka Maka, close to the beach to drink a fresh cocktail when the night comes.

If it’s been raining outside for days and you’re sick of staying in – where would you go?

On rainy days – 3345 bar, great for chilling with their room full of comfy sofas. Perfect place to chill (or not) having a wine or beer or tea.

What’s that place in Barcelona you feel like only you know about?

My secret spot? Sorry I´m not gonna say it, it wouldn’t be secret anymore.

If tomorrow was your last day in Barcelona before you left for good, how and where would you spend it?

Good company and a nice Bloody Mary at Raw Bar, for example. One of the best Bloody Marys I tried in the city, this place is at Poblenou, have a lovely terrace and it´s really enjoyable in spring and summer.

Given the choice, mayor of which neighborhood would you be?

I guess my neighborhood, El Parc y la Llacuna de Poblenou, I really like this area, just ten minutes walking from the beach and 10 minutes walking from Ciudadella Park. Lovely area full of artists, galleries, creative spaces. I call it the ‘Brooklyn’ of Barcelona, really similar buildings around this part of the city. Good vibes, love it!!

What’s the spot in Barcelona you wouldn’t be caught dead in?

I don´t know, probably a club like under, pacha or shook hahaha. Why? Cause it´s in a part of the city (around Barceloneta beach) full of night clubs for tourists and really bad music. The atmosphere of these places make me feel really uncomfy.

You’ve just received the best news ever. Where would you go to celebrate and with whom?

I´m in love the hall of Casa bonay, so We´ll take my boyfriend and my friends there to celebrate on a winter day. Love the decoration of the place with its green colours. It´s at Tetuan station so its really closed walking from Ciutadella Park, so We can finish the lovely celebration going for a walk to the park.

What’s the thing you love doing that isn’t work, relationship or family related?

Painting with jazz in the background, with the sun coming from my window.

When you feel like a night out, what’s your go-to place and why?

In spring when the good weather is coming back, rather be on a terrace as long as I can, then maybe go to a underground party of Kommuna 2 or if not that, maybe going to Checkpoint.
