What do you do and why do you do it?
I'm a designer. I enjoy the freedom you have as a creative. At the moment I'm finishing my masters. No clue, whats coming next.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
All songs from Beirut.
What are the best TV shows of all time?
I never liked watching TV. But when I was a kid and visited my grandparents, we watched Sesamstraße and Sendung mit der Maus which was fun.
Name some spots in Berlin that are good for a Tinder date.
I would choose a bar in Kreuzkölln. I think a bar is always good for a first date. In Kreuzkölln there are many pretty bars. To name a few: Vögelchen, Klunkerkranich, Flaschenzug, Mama Bar, Villa Neukölln, Ä bar, Tier, Nathanja & Heinrich...
Who’s your hero and where in Berlin would you take them out for a serious hang?
I don't have a hero but I would take somebody who I admire to a canoe and sail on the Spree. We could have deep talks which nobody could interrupt.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
I don't like shopping. Normally I find them at flea markets, bring them back from a trip or buy them when I run into a sample sale. My favorite flea market is Maybachufer or Prinzessinnengärten. Arkonaplatz or Boxhagenerplatz fleamarkets are also very nice. Sometimes you can also find nice pieces at the Schöneberger flea market. We also have a lot of nice second hand stores (for example "Garage" in Schönberg).
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
Alexanderplatz. There is absolute no reason why I would go there. I hate the big shopping malls, the grey asphalt and the atmosphere.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
Going swimming in the lakes in the outskirts of Berlin. We have so many beautiful lakes that you can drive to within an hour but I almost never have a whole day off so I couldn't go for a swim. One of my favorites is Liepnitzsee in Brandenburg. I haven't been there for a while but I'll go soon again. I should take a day off more often and have a relaxing day on a lake.
What’s the most decadent / extreme dish you ever ate in Berlin and where did you get it?
Barkin'Kitchen or Katerschmaus are both adresses to get fancy food. Barkin'Kitchen is small if you compare it to Katerschmaus, the service is better and they have fabulous food. Katerschmaus has also special dishes like smoked and braised kohlrabi with glazed mustard cabbage, bean cassoulet, datetomatoes, beech-mushrooms and wild garlic foam.
Is there a hidden bar / hole in the wall in Berlin that you particularly like?
Open Airs. They are everywhere. During the summer there are every weekend open airs. Sometimes in the middle of Berlin. I prefer going on a Sunday when the sun is shining then clubbing on Saturday night. I get older and when I have to work on Monday I'm too tired so going to an open air on Sundays is much more fun!
What’s the most expensive restaurant / spa / hotel you’ve ever been to in Berlin? How much did it cost and what did you get there?
Vabali is my favorite spa. It costs 37,50 euro for a day. And it's definitely worth it. They have around ten saunas and amazing infusions like mint fresh, pine wood peeling or honey. The interior is just beautiful. They have waterbeds in the relaxation rooms, a fireplace, yummy smoothies, good food, different swimming pools inside and outside. It's the most beautiful spa I've ever been!
What restaurant in Berlin looks crap, but the food’s amazing?
Rüya Gemüse Kebab! You should really have a look at this imbiss. Some years ago it was a secret. Today everybody knows about Rüya. There are just a few tables to sit. It's always busy so you have to wait for maybe 15 minutes. But it's worth it. I always take the vegetarian Kebab with Kräuter sauce and all of the condiments, a choice that will give you a lovely mix of tomatoes, onions, salad, grilled vegetables, a fist of fresh herbs and a spoon of crumbled Turkish white cheese. The result is the most succulent and fresh Döner Kebab in Berlin.
Where can you get the best cocktail in Berlin? Which one do you like?
I'm not often going to drink cocktails because I don't drink alcohol. But I can recommend Salut bar in Schöneberg. It's not the cheapest place but the bar itself is cozy and seems to be from another period of time. The drinks are really good - even the ones without alcohol.
Where would you take your partner in Berlin if you wanted to really pamper them?
Vabali. There is no better place to pamper somebody.
Which snacks can you only get in your country, and which ones do you recommend?
The best snack is the Gemüse Kebab. Rüya in Schöneberg is the best vegetable Kebab you can get in town. We also have great currywurst and a lot of Burger places. I can recommend Berlinburger international or Schillerburger. Schillerburger also have the best sweet potatoes fries in the world.
What are the Berlin spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
There are many spots.. Best way to find out is looking at my map. I would recommend that you drift around. If you have more than a day you should go one day to Schöneberg, hang out in some cafes or in Gleisdreieckpark. The next day you could explore Kreuzkölln and the Tempelhofer Feld. And another day you can go to Prenzlauerberg and wonder around.
Tomorrow’s your last day in Berlin. How do you spend it?
Last day forever? Pack my stuff and cry. Last day for a while? Get a morning coffee from Double Eye, cycle to Kreuzberg, meet some friends, wander around, eat ice cream and have lunch at one of the restaurants next to the shore. In the afternoon I would drink another coffee at Kremanski before driving home and eat loads of sushi at flying fish before I would go to meet some friends for a Schorle on my rooftop.
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
I don't have a favorite vacation city. There are so many nice cities all over the world (Valencia, Copenhagen, Budapest, Lissabon, Bologna, Istanbul, Cartagena, Bordeaux, ..). But I really fall in love with Tel Aviv. It's a great city, they have sunshine, the sea and a beautiful beach. They have fabulous food and the people are really kind. There are nice cafes and bars, yummy coffee everywhere and they have a great nightlife.
