What do you do and why do you do it?
I'm an archivist. I love history and I'm a big believer in documenting and preserving the past. It might be cliché, but here we go anyway: "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?
I'm lucky to say that I've never had a job that I hated, but I was once unemployed for 3 months after graduate school. That was fun for about a week, and then I found myself sitting at home almost every day, in the dead of winter, talking to myself and wearing a onesie because we couldn't afford to turn the heat up.
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Boston?
I'm from the suburbs just north of Boston. I've traveled to a fair amount of places all around the world, but I've always been proud and considered myself lucky to call Boston "home."
What’s your current hood in Boston and what’s the best/worst thing about it?
I live in the Somerville Davis Square area. The best thing is that there are a lot of cool cafes, restaurants, and bars. The worst thing (and it's usually not that bad!) is that there are a lot of students (sorry, Tufts).
What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?
I love almost all kinds of music, with the exception of hardcore rap, metal, and country. If you're twanging about a truck, I just can't get on board. Boston has a lot of great concert venues, so I've been lucky enough to see a lot of amazing shows.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
This is a great question, and I can make a mean playlist: Tegan and Sara - Now I'm All Messed Up ; Camera Obscura - Honey in the Sun ; The Lumineers - Dead Sea ; Damien Rice - Grey Room ; Robyn - Love Kills ; Beyonce - Why Don't You Love Me ; Bon Iver - Blood Bank ; Chris Pureka - Burning Bridges ; Dar Williams - As Cool As I Am ; Daughter - Landfill ; The Decemberists - O New England ; Mountain Goats - The Mess Inside ; MS MR - Think of You ; Goldfrapp - A&E ; Kanye West - Heartless ; Katy B - Crying for No Reason ; The Killers - Just Another Girl ; La Roux - Bulletproof ; Lucius - Go Home ; Lykke Li - I Never Learn / Never Gonna Love Again
Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?
The L Word - It's ridiculous but you can't resist it. ; House Hunters International - You can almost convince yourself to move abroad, too! (Until the episode ends and you have to come back down to reality). ; The Great British Baking Show - I can't cook or bake, but I love to eat...and British people are charming as hell. ; Parks & Recreation - I still actively miss Amy Poehler and her lovable crew.
Name some spots in Boston that are good for a Tinder date.
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Lamplighter Brewery (Cambridge), Saloon (Somerville), Flatbread (Somerville)
Who’s your hero and where in Boston would you take them out for a serious hang?
Senator Elizabeth Warren is my current she-ro. I'd take her to Backbar in Union Square so that we could have intimate drinks while she explained to me how we can fix this country.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
Urban Outfitters, Gap, H&M, Zara, Jack Wills, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, and (don't laugh)...Abercrombie & Fitch
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
There are a lot of bars downtown that definitely cater to the college crowd, so I do my best to avoid those (I'm looking at you, Faneuil Hall).
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
Lounge around the Public Garden during the spring or summer!
Where do you go in Boston for a casual night out?
I like to stay in the Cambridge area for more casual hangs. Brick & Mortar in Central Square is always a good time.
Where would you go in Boston to celebrate some freaking good news?
Barbara Lynch's Drink in Fort Point. They are making some serious craft cocktails, and the food is stellar.
What’s your choice of transportation in Boston and why?
The T! It might have a bad rap, but if you're patient, it will get you to almost any spot in and around the city that you could ever want to go to.
What are the Boston spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
Fenway Park, Public Garden, Museum of Fine Arts
What are the Boston spots tourists should run from screaming?
Tomorrow’s your last day in Boston. How do you spend it?
With all of my friends, drinking on a roofdeck at Daedalus or the Sinclair (Harvard Square), then hopefully taking in one last Red Sox game at Fenway Park.
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
This is a tough one. I'll have to say Prague, because the food is delicious, they take their beer seriously, the architecture is stunning, people are friendly, and...it's all affordable.
