Who’s your hero and where in Chicago would you take them out for a serious hang?
I would invite Kathryn Bigelow for drinks at Gold Star, where we would discuss 'Point Break' at length.
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
Every neighborhood has something worth visiting, but I do have to say it's a bit tough to get excited about the Viagra Triangle.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
I really should bike to Gillison Park beach in Wilmette more often. In the summer, it feels like you've left Chicago behind.
What’s the most decadent / extreme dish you ever ate in Chicago and where did you get it?
The breaded steak sandwich (with everything) at Ricobene's is mayhem served on a roll. Delicious mayhem.
Is there a hidden bar / hole in the wall in Chicago that you particularly like?
Gold Star is the place to be for the discerning dive bar aficionado.
What restaurant in Chicago looks crap, but the food’s amazing?
Khan BBQ may look as plain as ditch water, but it's one of my favorite restaurants. Just go.
Where can you get the best cocktail in Chicago? Which one do you like?
The Weston can be had at The Sixth and Apogee Lounge. It's made with wheated bourbon, macerated pipe tobacco, Dark Matter coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, and (probably) voodoo magic.
Where would you take your partner in Chicago if you wanted to really pamper them?
I'd take them to the $15 all-you-can-eat-and-drink deal at Kelsey's on Friday. So fancy.
What’s the one place you think is overrated in Chicago?
Any place you have to wait 30 minutes for a pizza. Just get a stuffed slice from Art of Pizza and get it over with.
What’s the one place you think is underrated in Chicago?
The Garfield Park Conservatory is a must-visit in the winter.
What are the Chicago spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
The Green Mill, Billy Goat Tavern, Palmer House Hilton, and Chicago Athletic Association are an excellent introduction to the city.
Tomorrow’s your last day in Chicago. How do you spend it?
I'll take the water taxi to Chinatown, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, eat at Big Jones, and enjoy some whiskey on my favorite abandoned bridge.
