a bit about Anthony
What do you do and why do you do it?
Currently, I am wrapping up my undergrad days as a dual-degree aviation student at Metropolitan State University of Denver, while maintaining an internship. I decided that the aviation industry was for me, simply growing up in the Air Force. I spent 21 years of my life living at different military bases across the U.S. After moving to the D.C.-metro area, I wanted be more competitive in the industry, but also go West, so I did research on the top aviation programs in the country and MSU Denver popped up. To keep it short, I did my research, sent out thousands (not really) of emails to faculty and here I am now!
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?
Abercrombie and Fitch. The amount of perfume/cologne circulating in those stores made me want to rip my nose off.
Were you born and raised in Denver? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Denver?
I was born in Hackensack, New Jersey. The Rocky Mountains and aviation scene of Colorado kept whispering in my ear, so I had to answer.
What’s your current hood in Denver and what’s the best/worst thing about it?
I currently reside in the LoDo neighborhood. The best things about it would be the short distance to a lot of popular places. In my case, food and drinks. The worst would be the heavy presence of gentrification.
What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?
I cannot fathom heavy metal. It's like sniffing Abercrombie and Fitch cologne/perfume, but for the ears.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
Because, I know what music can do to the soul, happy or sad, I usually put myself in a quiet area, mentally and physically.
Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?
'Martin'; 'In Living Color'; 'The Jamie Foxx Show'. These shows were the pinnacle of my life growing up as a 90s kid. Much of my humor is an extension of these shows.
Name some spots in Denver that are good for a Tinder date.
Opehelia's and Cold Crush
Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).
I'll leave politics out - hint, hint. I'd LOVE to witness Kim Kardashian roasted relentlessly.
Who’s your hero and where in Denver would you take them out for a serious hang?
My dad is my hero. Since we enjoy food, I'd take him to my favorite restaurant in Denver's historically Black neighborhood of Five Points to Welton Street Cafe.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
I hop around. Actually. I'd have to say that ASOS is a nice website for good pick ups, especially for the body frame I have.
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
Actually, I'd go to every neighborhood. I enjoy capturing the authenticity of this city.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
I think I've done everything here. What I do not get enough time to do is just simply sit in a park and people watch and let my mind run.
Where do you go in Denver for a casual night out?
Larimer Street! You cannot beat that scene on the weekend.
Where would you go in Denver to celebrate some freaking good news?
I would have to say 16th Street Mall.
What’s your choice of transportation in Denver and why?
No persoanl car needed for me, Denver is the ideal city for biking, walking, car/ride-sharing, etc.. I'd say car-sharing for sure.
What are the Denver spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
Confluence Park, 16th Street Mall, Denver Art Museum
What are the Denver spots tourists should run from screaming?
Cherry Creek. Unless you enjoy everything rich and over the top, then get the heck out of there.
Tomorrow’s your last day in Denver. How do you spend it?
By catching a final drink and meal somewhere on Larimer Street
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
Right of the tip of the bat, Rio de Janeiro. I want to simply immerse myself in the culture.
