What are the Houston spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
It really depends on the person's interests. But for almost everyone, I would suggest not to miss a visit to NASA Space Center, Ferry ride in Galveston, the taste of diverse cuisines, street art and graffiti, food and shopping in Downtown tunnels, and watching Bats at Waugh Bridge Drive. If visiting with kids, Museum District will be a good one to go to. Do not miss RODEO if visting Houston between Feb - March.
Do’s and don’ts in Houston: (Ex: Tipping: yes/ no, public transport tips, safety tips etc.):
Don't have a car for Houston trip? Not an issue. Houston has very good public transport with METRO - buses, and trams. A single METRO pass can be used for both buses and tram and I recommend to get a day pass. Public transport becomes very useful especially if you are planning to visit Downtown and surrounding places where it is difficult to find parking and it is expensive too. If you are driving, beware of Houston's traffic and drivers as you might get in trouble if not cautious. If you get pulled over by a cop, stay in the car, do not hold the steering wheel and let only the driver speak with the cop. Remember DON'T MESS WITH TEXANS!!
Which Houston shops do you hit up when you’re itching for something new?
Rice Village has many shops to stop by and see what you wish to get. Galleria is also a good place to go for people who love Malls. If distances are not a problem and you like to take long drives, Katy Mills and Cypress Outlets will be a better place and little cheaper compared to stores at Galleria.
Which neighborhood is it best to experience during the day / night?
Rice Village will never disappoint you if you love to shop and eat. It is at its best during weekends. Houston Heights also has a lot of food and bar options and you will like it if you are a party guy.
What’s the area in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
Downtown/Medical Center during the day.
What’s the one place in Houston you think is underrated?
Houston Arboretum, Waugh Drive Bat Colony.
Where would you take a date for a romantic night out?
Rice Village where you have shopping, tasty food and great atmosphere.
Drunk and hungry - where do you go in Houston?
Houston Heights has so many good restaurants, and it's almost hard to pick one.
