a bit about Michal
What do you do and why do you do it?
I’m a student of International relations and Middle eastern and Islamic studies. I’m also a radio broadcaster (99FM), part time DJ and full time Facebook addict.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?
It was my first job. I was 16 and worked at a local ice cream shop. I had to wear a stupid shirt and a stupid hat and the worst part was that they didn’t even let me serve ice cream! One time I got angry and quit in the middle of the shift…never returned the shirt, though.
Were you born and raised in Jerusalem?
I was born and raised in Ness Ziona. It’s a small city in the center of Israel. Nothing happens there, really. It’s a nice place to grow up in but I felt like I needed some change. I wanted to study and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem seemed like a good choice.
What’s your current hood in Jerusalem and what’s the best/worst thing about it?
I live in Talbiye. love it. It’s beautiful and fun just to walk around in. It’s also quite but close to the rush of the center of the city.
What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?
I recently discovered Apple Music and I love it. I listen to jazz and really enjoy pop, rock and R&B. I hate some Israeli bands and singers, just because their music is lame…and EVERYBODY knows it…believe me.
You’re broken hearted – what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
I hate listening to music when I’m broken hearted, it only makes it worse. But if I had to, I’d listen to Tracy Chapman and Evyatar Banai, those two can make me cry every time.
Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?
Game of Thrones, Veep, Desperate Houswives, Bojack Horsman, 30 Rock, Orange is the New Black. Why are they so good? do I really need to explain?
Name some spots in Jerusalem that are good for a Tinder date.
Just a 5 minute walk from my house there’s a spot where you can look at the old city of Jerusalem. At night it’s one of the most romantic places I’ve been to in the city.
Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).
Benjamin Netanyahu. He’ll say that he gets roasted every day by the press, but I’d like to see him get roasted the traditional way (not literally roasted, though).
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
Jerusalem isn’t a fashion capital. I usually buy my clothes from the internet or when I’m abroad.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
I wish I had more time to visit the Israel Museum. Even if I’m not interested in the current exhibitions, it’s just a great place to hang out.
Where do you go in Jerusalem for a casual night out?
My casual night out includes tasty food and a drink. Both can be found at the pizza place near my apartment. What’s more casual than pizza?
Where would you go in Jerusalem to celebrate some freaking good news?
Gatsby! Great cocktails, tasty food and the vibes are awesome.
What’s your choice of transportation in Jerusalem and why?
It depends. I get to the university by car, but in order to get to anyplace else I take the bus or just walk. Bicycles aren’t popular in Jerusalem because it seems like it’s ALWAYS uphill.
What are the Jerusalem spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
The old city is unique and loaded with history in every brick. From the Gates to the Western wall – history is present.
What are the Jerusalem spots tourists should run from screaming?
There’s a street in the city center that is full of crowded bars with hookas. Not that I have anything against hookas, but believe me, just stay away from Rivlin st. after 8pm
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
It might sound cliche, but NYC’s my pick. I love everything in it from the parks to the people and the food. I try to get to the city at least once every two years.
