What do you do and why do you do it?
I work in management consulting (no dress code!), focussing on customer insights, loyalty and all things digital! It may very well sound dull to some of you, but I thoroughly enjoy my job. My current role is a perfect combo between numbers, spreadsheets and graphs (<3), and creative thinking.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?
Umm. When I was a student I was doing these temp jobs at conferences and events. This one time I was supposed to translate Russian<->English at this finance conference , but something/one effed up and I was told I need to be an elevator girl. As in, I stood all day in the elevator of the hotel pressing buttons for people who didn't even bother to say thanks. So, yeah, that was pretty freaking terrible and, needless to say, I now always thank people doing this in the elevators!
Were you born and raised in London? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to London?
I was born & raised in the beautiful capital of Mother Russia - Moscow. I've done my degree back home, but ended up briefly living in China and USA, until I decided to complete my postgrad at the University of Manchester. Got a job offer in London so moved here after my MSc... and voila!
What’s your current hood in London and what’s the best/worst thing about it?
I currently live in the lovely SE1 after a year in W2. It's quite the difference I must say. The cool thing about SE1 is that now I actually hang out in my neighbourhood. My friends all live around here so no need to go anywhere far + we have everything needed for happy life! My favourite Southbank, BFI, fancy-ish restaurants, hipster coffee shops, street food, shisha, views, pubs, cocktail bars, speakeasies and members-only jazz clubs. The 'worst' thing (I can't really call it that) is that there are no high-street shops... maybe?
What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?
Really not a music person. I do LOVE having a nice tune in the background, but I would really never able to tell you who is the singer, what's the name of a band or anything like that. My music choices, luckily, are now provided by Spotify and I listen to either jazz or some good-old hip-hop.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
'A soft jazz backdrop' playlist on Spotify. Thank me later.
Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?
Game of Thrones (obvs), Gossip Girl (my guilty pleasure since circa 2008), HIMYM (forever legen-wait-for-it-dary), New Girl (Nick <3) and many others. I have an unhealthy addiction to TV shows.
Name some spots in London that are good for a Tinder date.
Oyster Shed, Southbank, Borough Market, Fuckofee, Flatiron Sq
Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).
Can't live a day without a good-old Vladimir Putin trolling.
Who’s your hero and where in London would you take them out for a serious hang?
My dad's my hero <3. He loves museums, so South Ken it is.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
I can't imagine my life without internet shopping anymore, so mostly ASOS and Missguided. If I do buy something offline, it's always second-hand or Zara.
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
Oxford Circus and Leicester Sq - my personal hell.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
Wouldn't say 'never', but I really love summer sunny weather & swimming....
Where do you go in London for a casual night out?
Casual night out would probably be Soho or Shoreditch - wouldn't name any particular bars as I would always switch.
Where would you go in London to celebrate some freaking good news?
L'Entrecote, Gaucho and Hawksmoor. Did I mention I love steak?
What’s your choice of transportation in London and why?
My legs! I love walking.
What are the London spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
All the touristy stuff + borough market + southbank walk!
What are the London spots tourists should run from screaming?
Oxford Circus and Leicester Sq! Everyone should run from there screaming.
Tomorrow’s your last day in London. How do you spend it?
I go to each neighborhood one by one, walking! Starting with Notting Hill and finishing in Bermondsey Arts Club.
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
New York City is my absolute fave, but the best type of vacation is a trip to somewhere I have never been before. Why? Because all the new things!
