To the loo: A guide to London’s best toilet tricks

Here’s something travelers don’t talk about enough: you’re walking around all day, and every now and then nature calls. It’s only natural. So we asked our London cousins where one could just walk into a toilet, unbothered and do what they have to do, without anyone asking any questions. You better memorize this article.

I think London offers quite a few tourist-friendly toilet options (as opposed to Paris!). To me the best option is to find the closest pub. I still haven’t figured out why London pubs are so friendly to people who pop in just to use their toilet facilities. But that is definitely a trend! Unlike chain restaurants such as Pret-a-Manger, McDonald’s, Costa Coffee or Starbucks, pubs keeps their toilet doors open to anyone. It’s just that not everyone will intuitively think of pubs as the best option to stop by for a wee. As opposed to chain restaurants, pubs usually keep their toilets clean and neat. My favourite toilet is in the pub called The Knights Templar on Chancery Lane across the street from Maugham Library of King’s College London. It’s perfect for selfies, trust me! If there is no pub in the vicinity, try any museum in the area. As most of London museums are free (except for the Royal museums), no one will ever question you if you just stop by to use their toilets. They are not that well-served though as in the pubs. Some tube stations (if not all) host toilet facilities for commuters, this option is definitely off the beaten track bit that is precisely why such toilets are usually cleaner than those in chain restaurants – as they get far fewer visitors during the day.

The coolest toilets in London are probably in TING lounge in the Shard but to use those you need to book a month in advance of course which might not always be an option 🙂

Well, I’m personally never bothered about using any toilet anywhere, but the first toilet that comes to mind is the Sketch one which is really cool. All Dishoom restaurants have very nice toilets as well. However, not sure how unbothered you can walk into them. Harrods loos are pretty nice and you can just walk in.

I must say any museum is a good choice, they are usually really clean. If not I’ve had good luck with Nando’s restaurants they usually let you use their bathroom even if you are not a client. Leon is quite good as well. I would avoid places like Costa Coffee where you need a code that comes in your receipt to enter the toilet area.
