If you want coffee done right, this is the place. Their pour over is absolutely perfect. The cafe is spacious and very minimalist. If you get a chance to peek under the bar you will see quite possibly the most expensive coffee setup. These people know their coffee, and they are not dicks about it, which is a huge plus. They also host how-to classes from time to time, if you want to bring home some fine brew skills.

This is my most non-secretive secret spot. Everywhere in LA, people are wearing the Deus Ex Machina hats. I'm wearing one right now. It's almost a rite of passage for a newly minted LA Westsider. Inside is both a hip coffeeshop with good-looking people sprawled out everywhere, and also a men's clothing store. If I was rich I would buy the store out and own every piece of clothing they sell. It fits my style perfectly. It's hip and manly at the same time. It's a fusion between motorcycle apparel and the Venice skate/surf style. There's a nice outside area to enjoy coffee as well.

Coffee that benefits pets. This dog-themed cafe has an adorable patio tucked along the “Plant Provocateur”... its tea and coffee creations are exceptional and for every pound of coffee sold, Muddy Paw donates 50 cents to animal rescue charities.

Delicious everything in this upbeat hip cafe. Love stopping for a quick but fresh bite when I walk down on Main street. I always prefer sitting outside in the back garden - less crowded and noisy. Love their Panini Portobello and i don't know... something about their OJ is just extra fresh i love it!

It all started with a name named Phil (shocking I know), who wanted to create a perfect cup of coffee. He personally has created every blend in this funky cafe and utilizes the slow-drip method, so each cup is made one at a time, with a little bit of TLC. Come here. Get the Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. Sweet and Creamy. Thank me later.

Alfred is the spot if you're on Melrose doing some shopping. It's tucked away in an alleyway, but if you're determined enough you'll find it. Great coffee and great juice and all the quality branding a designer could ask for!

Nice coffee shop in Santa Monica. This place is very typical Santa Monica, so go there if you want to get a sense of the neighborhood and its people. Highly recommend their iced latte!

Opened in 2013 on Melrose Place (one of the cutest streets in LA), Alfred has taken the city by storm with several other locations throughout, including an Alfred Tea Room across the street. The shop is adorable, which is obvious from all the instagrams being taken in there, but the coffee itself is my favorite in the city. As an added bonus, it has a little shop in the back where there's a rotation of pop-ups selling everything from chic eyewear to chic chocolate. The whole situation makes for a cute experience whether you want to linger in the shop, enjoy your drink sitting outside or take the coffee to go and window shop on Melrose Pl.

Another surprising spot in LA. This little cafe is actually part of a church (so it is closed on Sundays), but it is one of my favorite places to grab some coffee and read, or work on my computer. The staff is always super friendly, and they have some grab-and-go sandwiches and bars available for purchase if you are hungry. Lots of outlets, and there is also a little outdoor patio, as well as a room in the back with couches and a large table. My favorite drink from here is the Mexican Mocha. If you are looking for family-friendly fun, they also have events like Clean Comedy Night and Movie Night here sporadically.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in LA. My favorite is the Iced Tomo Latte, which is made with condensed milk, but they also carry Art of Tea teas, and do wonderful pour-overs. Make sure to order a sweet potato and cheese pretzel while you are there. They take a while to come out and the combo might sound a little weird, but it is so tasty. Slightly sweet, cheesy, and carby. Yum! For parking, I recommend parking at One Westside (the complex where the Michael's is) down the street if you cannot find parking on the street.
