What do you do and why do you do it?

I am a filmmaker, producer and photographer. If I've been there, I've shot it. I like to be surrounded by creative, fun and smart people who expect me to be as creative, fun and smart as I can be. I have been to over 100 countries for work and play, and I'm not stopping.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

I worked in an office right after university. I hate offices and office talk. It was bad because it was an office job. Need I say more?

Were you born and raised in Manila? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Manila?

I was born in Manila. My whole family moved to Canada in 1993. Now my time is spent between Toronto and Manila.

What’s your current hood in Manila and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

I have a condo in Ortigas Centre. It's a bachelor pad, pretty much. The best part about it is the location. I can Uber anywhere. The worst thing about it is the traffic in my area. And there's just TOO. MANY. MALLS.

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

I love jazz and classical music, Latin rhythms (except reggaeton), and classic rock, especially the Southern type. I absolutely HATE hiphop, reggaeton, and Top 40.

You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

Johann Sebastian Bach

Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?

Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown (the guy is my idol, and he goes to more messed-up places that I do). I love Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Game of Thrones, because they are absolute examples of great pacing in storytelling. And Twin Peaks!

Name some spots in Manila that are good for a Tinder date.

Poblacion if you're dating a poser. Ermita and Malate if you're feeling adventurous. Quezon City and Pasig if you're not pretentious.

Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).

Rodrigo Duterte, Bongbong Marcos, Mocha Uson, Tito Sotto

Who’s your hero and where in Manila would you take them out for a serious hang?

Anthony Bourdain. I would take him to the bohemian haunts in Quezon City or deep, deep Manila. Not Makati or BGC. And poke his brain.

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

I usually buy my clothes in Canada because they're cheaper there! J Crew and Banana Republic. I tend to go for quality because I travel for a living and most of the time I have to fit everything in a suitcase.

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

Bonifacio Global City unless I have to. An absolutely charmless place.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

I love exploring old Manila (Binondo, Quiapo, etc.) but it's so FAR and getting there is a trek

Where do you go in Manila for a casual night out?

Pasig, Mandaluyong, Quezon City

Where would you go in Manila to celebrate some freaking good news?

I would get out of Manila and hit the beaches of Zambales or the Visayas. But within Manila, I would probably organize a party at my place or a friend's

What’s your choice of transportation in Manila and why?

Uber and Grab. Taxis are a hassle, and some are just unsafe. And I don't want to drive myself within the city because the traffic kills you.

What are the Manila spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

Binondo for food, Intramuros for history, Quiapo and Divisoria for the assault on the senses

What are the Manila spots tourists should run from screaming?

Shopping malls. Bonifacio Global City/Ayala Centre. Mall of Asia.

Tomorrow’s your last day in Manila. How do you spend it?

I would probably do a photography walk along Ermita/Malate/Binondo/Quiapo. Filipinos love to be photographed. Everyone is smiling. And the old city itself is really a haven for urban photography. So many elements to put within the frame.

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

New York City. I lived there for a bit, and it feels like home. It's the greatest city in the world.
