a bit about Joanna

What do you do and why do you do it?

I'm a travel blogger and Instagrammer. I love traveling and meeting new people.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

When I first got to Melbourne I started working at a café, the job itself was nice but my manager was a horrible person! She was rude to everyone, even to the customers! After that experience I promised myself that I'd never let people treat me like crap again! haha

Were you born and raised in Melbourne? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Melbourne?

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and in 2007 I started travelling the world slowly. I've always wanted to come to Australia and when I first got here I spent 3 months in Byron Bay. I loved it there but I prefer big cities. I came to Melbourne for a couple of days and fell in love with the city! I've been living in Melbourne since April 2015.

What’s your current hood in Melbourne and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

I live in a Jewish neighbourhood called Elsternwick and I absolutely love it! There are loads of nice cafés, bars and restaurants here, there's also a 24/7 supermarket and a really cool old cinema! You can easily get to the city by train or tram from here and Elwood beach is only a 25 minute walk from where I live!

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

At home I usually listen to indie rock and chilled tunes. At parties I like to listen and dance to electronic music. I absolutely hate heavy metal and country!

You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

I'd rather go blind by Etta James, Drops of Jupiter by Train, Ain't no sunshine by Bill Withers, Feeling Good by Nina Simone...

Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?

I love comedy shows! The Office (the American version) is by far my favourite show - I've watched it over 10 times. All the characters are hilarious! Angry Boys is an Aussie comedy show I really like. It's hard to explain but you gotta watch it! haha

Name some spots in Melbourne that are good for a Tinder date.

If it's a brunch date I'd recommend a café in Balaclava called Monk Bodhi Dharma. The food is delicious and the place has a really cool vibe! Now if you fancy some drinks Naked for Satan in Fitzroy is the place for you! You can start off the night on the first floor where they serve lovely Pintxos (finger food) and move on to the top floor, their rooftop bar called Naked in the Sky. The view from there is amazing!

Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).

Donald Trump.

Who’s your hero and where in Melbourne would you take them out for a serious hang?

My dad! He loves beer so I'd probably take him on a brewery tour!

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

One thing I love about Melbourne is that you can find charity shops (they're called op shops here in Australia) everywhere. I always find really cool stuff when I go op-shopping!

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

I'm not really one for fancy restaurants.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

I do the things that I like pretty often!

Where do you go in Melbourne for a casual night out?

To Riverland Bar in the CBD.

Where would you go in Melbourne to celebrate some freaking good news?

Probably The Rooftop Bar on Swanston Street - Awesome atmosphere and yummy cocktails!

What’s your choice of transportation in Melbourne and why?

Trains and trams. They are very reliable and easy to use.

What are the Melbourne spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

The CBD, Fitzroy and South Melbourne Market

What are the Melbourne spots tourists should run from screaming?

The Melbourne Star and the Aquarium are attractions I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Tomorrow’s your last day in Melbourne. How do you spend it?

Since I love coffee and Melbourne is the coffee capital of Australia, I'd probably spend my last day in Melbourne café hopping!

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

Even though Rio de Janeiro is my hometown, I can't thing of a better vacation city! Rio has got everything - amazing beaches and hikes, great food and the best parties in the world!
