a bit about Alain
What do you do and why do you do it?
I design and code app, website or any other web oriented thing. I love the internet and all the possibility that it opens up. Look at Cool Cousin for example!
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?
I did an internship at the town hall of my city when I was maybe 18. I was part of the IT team and our main role was to help the employees with their computers, printers or any other technological-related issues. A basic day would be full of interaction like this: Phone ringing - "Hello, how can I help you today?" - "My printer is not working since this morning." - Go check the printer - Of course, it's unplugged - Plug it back to the electricity - Go back to my desk and wait for the next call.
Were you born and raised in New York? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to New York?
I lived my entire life in Paris, France. I arrived in New York at the beginning of the year, in January. NYC as always been one of my dreams so, when I got the opportunity to get a job here, I jumped on it!
What’s your current hood in New York and what’s the best/worst thing about it?
I live in Williamsburg, the epicenter of the hip. Basically, it's "Welcome to HipsterLand". This is what makes it the best and also the worst thing about it. There is so much place to discover, food, bars, rooftop, cinema, etc... But sometimes, it feels like it tries almost too much to be the coolest.
What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?
I love all music with a nice 80's vibe (you can find my favorite playlist ever on Spotify called 'Time for Nonsense'). I hate most of EDM.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
'If You Go Away' by Neil Diamond - 'Frozen' by Madonna - 'Something About Us' by Daft Punk - 'The Girl From Ipanema' by Stan Getz - 'Unchained Melody' by The Righteous Brothers
Name some spots in New York that are good for a Tinder date.
Head to two bridges, there's a beautiful skatepark there, you can just sit and talk while being amazed at some of the really good skaters. Then, when you've seen enough, bring your date to Monroe, the restaurant just in front of it. The atmosphere there is very romantic and the prices are not so high so you can invite your date without being afraid of the final bill.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
Since I arrived in New York, I love going to every thrift store in the city. There are a lot of them in the East Village as well as in Brooklyn.
Where do you go in New York for a casual night out?
Here in New York, every night is different. The basic rule is to go where the night brings you.
Where would you go in New York to celebrate some freaking good news?
Depends on the type of news. If it's the kind of news that need alcohol and craziness, probably East Village and more precisely the bar called Berlin. If it's the kind of news that involve just me and my beloved one, probably Top of the Standard, at the sunset, drinking signature cocktails.
What’s your choice of transportation in New York and why?
I bike everywhere because it's usually the fastest way to commute in the city. Ok, sometimes I do order a Lyft or Via when I'm feeling lazy (or drunk).
Tomorrow’s your last day in New York. How do you spend it?
Organizing the biggest party ever on my rooftop.
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
Paris, because sometimes I miss it!
