a bit about Daniel

What do you do and why do you do it?

I work at Google by day and run on nights/weekends.

What TV show is a must watch?

Real Time in chunks if you have a subway commute.

What’s the best karaoke song of all times?

John Cage – 4′33″.

Which movie have you watched more than 3 times?

Terminator 2.

Have you ever cried while reading a book? Which one?

Yea, I cried when I read Fictional Exaggerations of Reality. Sadly it’s because I wrote it.

Are you a planned or a spontaneous shopper? What’s your go-to store in New York?

Spontaneous. I march down Prince or Bleecker and often find something I want.

What’s the one place in New York that you’re sure only you truly appreciate?

I run over the Williamsburg bridge most mornings. The views aren’t great and with the the traffic exhaust I might as well be in Shanghai… but I keep shaving time and loving it.

What’s your dream job?

I want to clear all the thetans.

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

Berlin. I’m still chasing memories from my 1998 – 2002 rips.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in New York but never actually do?

New York County Criminal Court is open to the public. I always intend to pop in on a trial, reflect on life and then eat a filling meal nearby.

Who’s your hero and where would you take them out for a bite or a drink in New York?

I don’t have a go-to hero, but anyone worth that distinction deserves all you can eat breadsticks at the Olive Garden in Times Square.

If you were given a choice, mayor of which neighborhood in New York would you be?

TriBeCa. And I’d aim for Boss Tweed levels of corruption.

What’s the place in New York you’ll never be caught dead in?

The morgue.

Where do you and your drinking buddies meet for a casual night out in New-York City?

Welcome to the Johnsons. Early.

Where would you go in New York to celebrate the best news EVER!?

There’s a helipad on 18th & the Westside highway that BLADE flies out of. I’d get airborne.

It’s a Saturday night and the mood is right – where do you go in New York to party?

The party scene is more interesting to me these days than the club scene. I check Resident Advisor and look for anything without an address. If it’s a Cityfox experience, I won’t miss it. And I’ll scan Twitter for anything going down at the Knockdown Center. If you do the same, show up after 2 AM and bring sunglasses. You’ll thank me when you leave in the morning.

It’s your last day in New York – how do you spend your time?

Recant on deathbed.

What’s the one place a first-time visitor in New-York City can’t miss?

Mark all the places you want to see on the map and then go to a random subway stop nowhere near them. It might be boring, shitty or scary but it will serve as an anchor point by which to judge all other spots.
