What do you do and why do you do it?
I am a Singer-Songwriter. I do it because it keeps me sane in this chaotic world. All of my fears, desires, secrets, dreams...I put it in the music. It's so much easier than public speaking!
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
Where do broken heartssss gooooo??? Lol. No seriously, I'm a hopeless romantic so this question is perfect. My playlist starts with the "I'll never get over you" How Do I Live Without You by LeAnn Rimes. Then sadness fades and, it moves on to Kelis, Caught out There. Once the anger subsides, I mellow out to Auntie Celine's, My Heart Will Go On. (RIP Jack)
What are the best TV shows of all time?
Please check out ANY of these shows if you haven't seen them. (I promise you will love me long time) A Different World, Martin, Living Single, Saved by the Bell, Atlanta, Game of Thrones (moment of silence for all of your favorite characters...NO ONE is safe). These are my faves from childhood up until my now. Oh and Proud Family, Beyonce and Solange kill the theme song!
Name some spots in New York that are good for a Tinder date.
I rarely swipe right, lol. But I do enjoy the vibes of Azya Wine and Chocolate Bar, the food at Negril Village, and the hot wings from Fat Black Pussy Cat! Also, there's a nice place in Williamsburg that has .50 cent wings on Mondays, TuTu's. (I have a thing for buffalo wings, thank me later).
Who’s your hero and where in New York would you take them out for a serious hang?
My hero is my mom. She seriously holds me down! Next time she's in town I am taking her to this awesome rooftop winery my friend just recommended, Rooftop Reds.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
I'm a thrift queen. Most of my fits are from Goodwill. But I have a few statement pieces that I love from Zara! Also, my really good friend has a line, MWR Collection, and she styles me for my shows!
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
I love NYC and will explore just about anywhere. So far, I haven't stumbled across any place so awful that death isn't an option lol!
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
I love to ice skate but I never make it to Rockefeller center during the winter. It's been five years and it's still a dream of mine. Gonna make it happen this year!
What’s the most decadent / extreme dish you ever ate in New York and where did you get it?
I'm no extremist lol but I did try chocolate zucchini cake while on vacation with friends in the West Hamptons and it was the best cake I've ever had in my life. Compliments of Mrs. Iris Keitel!
Is there a hidden bar / hole in the wall in New York that you particularly like?
Londel's in Harlem. Great southern food. I love the down-home feel.
What’s the most expensive restaurant / spa / hotel you’ve ever been to in New York? How much did it cost and what did you get there?
I'm not really the fine dining type but I was treated to STK for my birthday, fortunately I didn't get to see the bill! I had steak, grilled shrimp and veggies! Absolutely delicious.
What restaurant in New York looks crap, but the food’s amazing?
Jimbo's in Harlem. Any location. Looks like a dirty cafe but the breakfast food is uhmazing! Reminds me of Waffle House from my hometown, Atlanta.
Where can you get the best cocktail in New York? Which one do you like?
I really love a margarita on the rocks from Papatzul in Soho. $6 during happy hour from 4pm-8pm.
Where would you take your partner in New York if you wanted to really pamper them?
I'm more single than a dollar bill...I'd take myself to Premier 57 in the city. Me, myself and I deserve a rooftop spa.
Which snacks can you only get in your country, and which ones do you recommend?
I'm honestly not sure. Maybe Hot Cheeto Puffs.....
What’s the one place you think is overrated in New York?
TIMES SQUARE!! I
What’s the one place you think is underrated in New York?
Long Island City, it's not from the city at all and has tons of cute neighborhoods and bars. I like the feel.
What are the New York spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
Harlem BBQ! There are two locations and every single thing on the menu is amazing! I recommend the large frozen rum punch!
Tomorrow’s your last day in New York. How do you spend it?
I sleep in. I wake and bake to the tunes of Bob Marley and The Wailers. I make a nice fruit smoothie to compliment the unhealthy ass homefries and scrambled eggs platter that I love from the bodega on Jefferson and Evergreen. I plop down on the couch to eat to the sweet sounds of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. Then I pretty much float through Brooklyn exploring and catching the last bit of vibes. One good chill ass day.
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
Toronto! It was the first city and is the only city I've had a chance to explore outside of the U.S. and the people were literally the nicest I've ever met. I did not want to leave! I think I left a bit of my heart there lol.....in one of those medicinal clinics! Ha.
