a bit about Claudia

What do you do and why do you do it?

I bartend at one of the best dive bars in town, serving some of the best fried chicken in the state. I love being around people and creating a fun experience for everyone!

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

My first job ever was a hotel maid. I don't think I need to tell you why it was so effing bad.

Were you born and raised in Portland? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Portland?

I grew up in a small town near South Lake Tahoe, CA and to me Portland is the perfect mix of nature and urban adventure. You get amazing bars and restaurants, but you also are a short drive away to some of the most fascinating areas I've ever seen. The waterfalls are unbeatable, the hikes to get there are both easy and rewarding, the coast is rugged and beautiful, Mt Hood is majestic and the camping is endless. OH and the wine tasting! Willamette Valley wines are phenomenal and you don't get the snootiness of Napa

What’s your current hood in Portland and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

I live in SE and it is PERFECTION. Everything is a short bike/walk/cab ride away and the vibe is chill.

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

I listen to anything except modern country, sorry Garth. I am currently on a hip-hop bender and will always always listen to jazz

You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

I like to throw it back to some old Dashboard Confessional and sing at the top of my lungs, but then I switch it up to Beyonce and move on with my life

Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?

Twin Peaks! It captures the weirdness of the Pacific Northwest and the soundtrack is timeless.

Name some spots in Portland that are good for a Tinder date.

Sweet Hereafter is my go to, but I'm sure the bartenders are tired of seeing me with a new date every other week

Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).

Barack Obama, because he's an easy target and he'll laugh it off

Who’s your hero and where in Portland would you take them out for a serious hang?

Beyonce and we would hit up the queer dance parties, eat dope burgers, go for a bike ride and pop bottles of bubbly in the park

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

Sloan boutique

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

Nothing! I get to do all the things I love!

Where do you go in Portland for a casual night out?

Stammtisch - great bartenders, great list of German beers and wines, great food options, great atmosphere.

Where would you go in Portland to celebrate some freaking good news?

Noble Rot - their burger is delicious, their wine list is exciting, and the restaurant is on the fourth floor facing West- so go at sunset!

What’s your choice of transportation in Portland and why?

Bicycle! This city was planned for bikes, not cars

What are the Portland spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

Cathedral Park, Doug Fir, Laurelhurst Theatre, Powells, Tasty N Daughters

What are the Portland spots tourists should run from screaming?

Pok Pok - go support any other Thai restaurant that isn't owned by a white man

Tomorrow’s your last day in Portland. How do you spend it?

eating eating eating

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

Austin, TX so far.... the food, the music, the dancing, the uniqueness of every place, and the second hand shops are killer. I'm going to Paris later this year, so this answer might change...
