a bit about Leonardo
What are you working on these days?
I am one of the founders and CMO of a Rio’s local artisanal microbrewery called Three Monkeys Beer.
What drives you mad these days?
The lack of education of the people and how many people think only about themselves and not about the good of others.
What makes you happy?
Being with my friends, traveling and spreading the mission of my company. Brewing beer with friends -that’s how we create moments of fellowship among people, always with a good beer next to us.
When was the last time you cried?
If I’m not mistaken, when my sister left home or in “About Time” movie , when the father dies. It must have been a couple of years.
What’s your latest musical obsession?
Two Door Cinema Club – Are We Ready? ; Years & Years – Shine ; Of Monsters and Men – Winter Sound ; MØ – Final Song ; Drake – One Dance
What was the last movie you watched? Was it any good?
“Legend”, with Tom Hardy. I thought ok, nothing fancy, but a very well done movie. “5 to 7” I found it pretty cool. I am fan of Anton Yelchin’s work and the story is good, with an interesting final message.
When it’s time for a new wardrobe, where do you go?
I am just buying local brands. Some friends are doing an amazing job here in Rio, such as Odde (shoes), Zerezes (glasses), Cabron (clothing), Tricky n Hips (clothing) and Cotton Project (clothing). The last shirts I bought were from the AMP (The Father of Women).Oh, and of course Stance socks!
What’s your go-to café in Rio De Janeiro?
Although I love coffee, I meet friends and / or scheduling meetings also somewhere to have a fruit juice or acai. Or if it is during the weekend , a bar, to have a beer. For Coffee: Library Argument (Leblon), Transom Bookstore (Botafogo) and Cafuné Cafeteria (Barra da Tijuca), Guerin (São Conrado) Juices: Mix Balada (Olegario Maciel / Barra and Shopping Gavea / Gávea), Bibi juices (Leblon) My favorite Bars: Bar Inverso (Botafogo), sunroof (Botafogo), Void São Conrado (São Conrado)
What’s your favorite street or neighborhood to wander through?
My favorite neighborhood in Rio is Gavea. It can mix calm and bustle and have enough nature. As I studied there, I also have good memories of my time in college and I am currently looking for an apartment there to have cool alternatives of culture and fun. I have two streets in Rio that I really like: Rua Marquês de São Vicente (Gávea) and Rua Dias Ferreira (Leblon). The first crosses the whole neighborhood and mixes a little of the feelings that I mentioned earlier. The second is also a street with many entertainment options, and there is one of my favorite bars in town.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in Rio De Janeiro but never actually do?
I love to ride my bike. I would like to be able to go around the city only by bike, but I end up using my car because I live far from work. Another thing I have not done recently, but I have always done is surfing. But this year I want to come back to practice regularly.
Who’s your hero (dead or alive) and where would you take them to show them a good time?
My heroes are my parents. They are separated, but each managed to educate me his own way, showing how to be a good person to the world , thinking about the other , the common good, but also out of the box , make different. I would take my mother Gurumê or PJ Clarke’s , because she taught me to love Japanese cuisine and took me to the PJ in New York . And my father would take me to Mee , because I do not know it and my father loves Asian food, Olympe to reminisce about the times we lived in France or in the Bar do Mineiro, as he enjoys very typical restaurants in Rio and would be very happy to eat bolinho and feijoada on a Sunday afternoon.
If it’s been raining outside for days and you’re sick of staying in – where would you go?
I love rain, so I would not be afraid to say that it would be surfing! But as I have not been practicing for a while, I think of other options like watching a movie alone in any room of the Grupo Estacao (always good European films), together with friends in someone’s home or hit the gym.
What’s that place in Rio De Janeiro you feel like only you know about?
Actually, this is a little crazy answer. But I like being stuck in traffic alone. I do not get stressed . I turn on the music loud, listen to new bands and sometimes I just stop thinking.
If tomorrow was your last day in Rio De Janeiro before you left for good, how and where would you spend it?
I would wake up early (despite suffering to wake up early normally), would swim at Grumari beach and surf last. Return and would take a bike to ride around the Praia da Barra beach. Then take some açaí juice with a friend and go to South Zone. There I would combine a lunch with an art galley in Gávea and go to Leblon to drink a beer. From there Botafogo to continue drinking with friends and then we would find a party to enjoy good music and be jumping and singing like children.
Given the choice, mayor of which neighborhood would you be?
Barra da Tijuca. I’ve lived here since childhood and i’d try to make this neighborhood a different place and be seen with better and different eyes for the rest of Rio. Change the traffic, bring new entertainment and culture to the neighborhood and use some areas for the development of young athletes in different sports.
What’s the spot in Rio De Janeiro you wouldn’t be caught dead in?
Jeez! I hope I will die at home, surrounded by my family and friends. So any place that is different from that!
You’ve just received the best news ever. Where would you go to celebrate and with whom?
I would do exactly what I have done in the last good news I received in my life. I sent the news to five Whatsapp groups with friends and family and called all of them to have a drink at Dias Ferreira street.
What’s the thing you love doing that isn’t work, relationship or family related?
For sure drinking with friends, if possible at someone’s home with the largest number of known people and lots of good music.
When you feel like a night out, what’s your go-to place and why?
Brewteco Leblon. One of the first point of sale of my brewery. Very good beers, positive vibe, friends and in the heart and most lively part of Leblon neighbourhood.
