What are the San Francisco spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
Explore all the usual spots Downtown, but don't miss a walk over the Golden Gate (dress warmly), a night tour of Alcatraz, sitting at an outdoor cafe and people watching (anywhere really), and getting an amazing dinner where you try food you've never had before (Bask, Mandalay, and Gracias Madre are some of my favorites).
Do’s and don’ts in San Francisco: (Ex: Tipping: yes/ no, public transport tips, safety tips etc.):
The Tenderloin has great bars and restaurants, but be aware of your surroundings. The folks that live there often use the sidewalks as their living room. They're good people, just be respectful (and watch out for poop and needles).
What do you do and why do you do it?
I oversee services in housing for people who've experienced homelessness. It's a really big and visible issue in SF and one that many passionate and dedicated people are trying to better address.
Which neighborhood is it best to experience during the day / night?
I love Golden Gate Park and the Sunset and Richmond neighborhoods that surround it. There's bison, windmills, several museums, unending walking paths, and tons of history.
Drunk and hungry - where do you go in San Francisco?
DNA pizza. So good, and open late.
It's freeeeezing out - what should a visitor do?
Find a museum. Nice and warm and we have a ton!
Where do you take your guest when you want to impress?
Ad Hoc in Napa.
Best place for a cheap bite on-the-go:
Bahn Mi in the inner Richmond. Yum!
Tomorrow’s your last day in San Francisco. How do you spend it?
A picnic in Golden Gate Park with friends, fresh strawberries and other goodies from the farmers market, some local wine, and sunshine! Then a walk through the park and a bar to end the day.
You’re meeting the mayor of San Francisco - what constructive criticism would you give them?
I'd tell HER, welcome, and I can't wait to see what your impact will be!
