a bit about Cherie
What do you do and why do you do it?
I am PR & Marketing Manager at Lifeline, working with marketing live productions such as comedy & theatre shows, music concerts, the works. Every day is a different story in the entertainment biz!
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?
Definitely Sales Rep at a phone company. Talking on the phone and trying to sell stuff is just not my thing.
Were you born and raised in Stockholm? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Stockholm?
I was born in Stockholm, but raised in Las Vegas, NV (US). I moved back to Sweden after high school and ended up in Stockholm due to my current job. It was just meant to be!
What’s your current hood in Stockholm and what’s the best/worst thing about it?
Södermalm is where I reside, and ultimately my favorite part of Stockholm. Best is definitely the vibe, food and cheap drinks. The worst has to be overpriced brunch places, but they are delicious so it's (usually) worth it.
What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?
I can't live without my Spotify playlists (which I coordinate religiously)! They contain mostly indie, hip hop, and/or deep house remixes. You'll never find country or trance amongst my favorites.
You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?
These songs give me the feels: Kendrick Lamar - Feel, Frank Ocean - Bad Religion, Jaymes Young - I'll be good, Banks - Brain, Drake - Take Care, and SZA - Drew Barrymore.
Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?
I can talk all day about series, but some I enjoy are: Modern Family - funny, Shameless (U.S) & Skins (U.K.) - relatable, Misfits - badass, House of Cards - savage, American Horror Story - an actual "scary" series, and Chefs Table - because what's better than food?!
Name some spots in Stockholm that are good for a Tinder date.
I love adventures and dates are great for new experiences! I would say "Marie Laveau" for food/drinks/dancing, "Fotografiska" for a little bit of culture with food/drinks, or maybe "Bistro Bananas" for a little bit of urban food and a place to hang for a while. The great thing with my neighborhood - Södermalm - is that there are awesome places to just stumble in all over, all you need is great company and a starting point!
Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).
Can I say Beyoncé? Is that even possible? I would just love to see somebody try.
Who’s your hero and where in Stockholm would you take them out for a serious hang?
My heroes are definitely my ride or die babes and best friends, Aretha & Frida. Anywhere we go together turns to magic really, but recently we've gone to Södra Teatern, Tjoget, Marie Lavaeu, or Trädgården.
Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?
I love finding treasures at Aplace, & Other Stories, COS, Monki, H&M & Zara. There are also tons of great thrift stores that serve up signature pieces in my closet. Åhlens is also a worthy mention for all of your fashion, make up, and beauty needs - the ultimate department store!
What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?
"Östermalm" is beautiful with great food and fashion, but not really an area you will find me in outside of work. The vibe is a little too stereotypical at times for me to hang out there.
What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?
I'm usually in the "go to work - go home - repeat" kind of mood, I wish I just went out more to take in the city. Stockholm really has everything! I love finding new hidden treasures just by wandering around and this city is perfect for that.
Where do you go in Stockholm for a casual night out?
Marie Laveau, Nytorget 6, Hilma, Indigo, and Tjoget are great and trendy places to chill and have a cocktail. They also serve up some very nice bar food if you're in the mood. As I always say - get you a place that can do both!
Where would you go in Stockholm to celebrate some freaking good news?
For me to celebrate something, it always includes food! I would chose a place like "Yuc!" to enjoy awesome Mexican cuisine and great drinks with friends. A place that's not to expensive to keep the cocktails (and tacos) flowing all night!
What’s your choice of transportation in Stockholm and why?
Since I moved to Stockholm I have always taken the bus and subway if I can't walk to my destination. It's super easy getting around and there is a heavenly app - Res i Sthlm - that shows you exactly how (and when) to travel using the transportation of your choice. I use it almost everyday.
What are the Stockholm spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?
Stockholm in it self is just absolutely beautiful and very Instagram-friendly! I would definitely walk around Östermalm - Gamla Stan (Old Town) - Södermalm and just enjoy some fika and sight-seeing along the way, a great way to get a feel of the city! Around "Nybrogatan" you can even take boats out to different archipelagos which is perfect for relaxing day trips.
What are the Stockholm spots tourists should run from screaming?
Parts of Norrmalm and Gamla Stan are definitely tourist traps and covered in cheap souvenirs. It might be nice to walk through once, but I would avoid for the remainder of the trip.
Tomorrow’s your last day in Stockholm. How do you spend it?
I love reminiscing the last day, so I would just soak up what makes Stockholm great - food, fashion and views. Visit some cool shops to splurge (Grandpa, Dusty Deco, Snickarbacken7), drink great coffee (Fabrique, Café Pascal, Pom och Flora), enjoy the culture (Fotografiska, Moderna Museet, Stockholms public library), have a great last meal with a view (Glöd, Eken Bar, Himlen), and just be!
What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?
I just came back from Paris and I would just have to say - PARIS! Being in Montmartre, drinking wine and just people watching is a dream. Parisian style is life, am I right?
