a bit about Aleksandra

What do you do and why do you do it?

I am a Product Specialist for a Media Company in Toronto. I work on creating fun web content for kids. I am also a freelance photographer!

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

Data entry. It was SO boring.

Were you born and raised in Toronto? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Toronto?

I was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia. I came to Canada in the early 90's as a refugee.

What’s your current hood in Toronto and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

I live 30 minutes outside of Toronto but I spend most of the time in the city. My hood is alright. There's lots of green space and some amazing Middle Eastern restaurants!

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

It depends on my mood. I listen to almost anything except heavy metal and techno.

You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

Anything that will lift my mood. Maybe some reggae or latin music? Bob Marley is always a good choice!

Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?

Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Outlander, Narcos. They are all so well written, great characters, etc.

Name some spots in Toronto that are good for a Tinder date.

I've never used Tinder so I have no idea.

Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).

Kim Kardashian

Who’s your hero and where in Toronto would you take them out for a serious hang?

Too many heroes to list. I would take them out for food/coffee in Kensington Market!

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

Wherever there's a sale. I do like Zara and Lululemon, and Winners! Queen Street West has some cool boutiques!

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

There's something interesting in every spot in town! you just gotta look! But i probably wouldn't hang out near Jane and Finch. It doesn't have the best reputation.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

Just explore new areas. I tend to stick to my usual, favourite spots and never seem to have time to check out new areas.

Where do you go in Toronto for a casual night out?

Little Italy, Ossington area. They are both pretty laid back. If you like a bar scene (not clubs) this is the place to go. Some nice patios as well!

Where would you go in Toronto to celebrate some freaking good news?

Depends what you're in the mood for. If you like dancing and latin music, Lula Lounge is fun. King street has some good bars and lounges as well.

What’s your choice of transportation in Toronto and why?

The subway. Driving in the city is pretty painful especially on weekends! The other good option is the shared bike service, Bixi! Great way to get around downtown.

What are the Toronto spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

Distillery District, St.Lawrence Market, Kensington Market, Queen Street West, CN Tower, Evergreen Brickworks Farmers Market on Weekends, The Danforth (Greek town), Chinatown, Toronto Islands, Scarborough Bluffs for a good hike, Casa Loma, ROM Museam, Blue Jays game.

What are the Toronto spots tourists should run from screaming?

If you want to avoid lots of tourists then probably the CN tower, Ripley's Aquarium, Niagara Falls!

Tomorrow’s your last day in Toronto. How do you spend it?

Grab a bite to eat at St.Lawrence Market, go for a stroll through Kensington Market, get a coffee. Head over to Queen Street West, window shop and end up in Trinity Bellwoods park. Grab a bit to eat at Fresh and go for some drinks on Ossington.

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

Istanbul, Melbourne, Bangkok, Florence. They are all so different but there is an energy about each place that is unforgettable.
