a bit about Becca

What do you do and why do you do it?

I'm a photographer and currently training to become a Thai Massage Practitioner. I enjoy both activities because I get to flex my creative muscles - and the rest of my muscles too!

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

Hmmm, probably the worst job I ever had was working as a dog walker. I LOVE dogs, going for walks and being outside, but man, being a dog walker is a TOUGH job. After a few years of doing it all winter long, I was out.

Were you born and raised in Toronto? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Toronto?

Yes, I was born and raised on Havelock Street in the Dufferin Grove/Bloordale neighbourhood.

What’s your current hood in Toronto and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

My current hood is The Junction. The best part about it is how cute and quaint it is, and all the beautiful tree-lined streets with magnificent old houses. Walking around this hood feels like I'm in a fairy tale. The worst part is that it's a little far from the downtown core.

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

I love all kinds of music, from new to old, reggae to bluegrass, but I'm not a huge fan of the most mainstream of mainstream stuff, intense electronic music, or anything super angry.

You’re broken hearted - what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

Sia - Elastic Heart, Cat Power - Dreams, Jay Abner - I'm So Depressed, Tina Turner - Proud Mary, Moby - In My Heart, Lauryn Hill - For Zion, Jewel, Vic Chestnutt, Mazzy Star, the blues. I'm not crying, you're crying!

Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?

Survivor! I'm a super-fan. Considering trying to get my American citizenship simply so I can apply to be a contestant. It's fascinating, exciting, and has beautiful beach shots in the show. You either love it or you hate it.

Name some spots in Toronto that are good for a Tinder date.

It depends on what kind of date you want to have, but Toronto always has lots of cool arts & culture things happening. Look up an event listing online and hit up a gallery opening, live music show, art crawl, flea market or street fest. Or meet for lunch.

Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).

Ha - can we take Donald Trump from well done to rare?

Who’s your hero and where in Toronto would you take them out for a serious hang?

Patti Smith, Kensington Market. OR Oprah, Yorkville.

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

Thrift stores all day!

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

The PATH scares me tbh.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

Go to a concert or fun party when I'm not photographing it, or lounging poolside on a fancy rooftop condo pool.

Where do you go in Toronto for a casual night out?

Cherry Cola's Rock 'n' Rolla Cabaret & Lounge

Where would you go in Toronto to celebrate some freaking good news?

Candyland

What’s your choice of transportation in Toronto and why?

Walking or the TTC when it's too far to walk. It's a very walkable city, but not always possible when I'm lugging my gear around.

What are the Toronto spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

High Park, The Drake Hotel, Courage My Love, The AGO.

What are the Toronto spots tourists should run from screaming?

Hmm, well I'm not exactly sure where the most touristy of tourist spots are, but I don't know how great of a time you're going to have on those red double decker tourist buses. Where do they even go? Up and down Bay Street?

Tomorrow’s your last day in Toronto. How do you spend it?

Oh no! Where am I going? Getting roti in Parkdale with friends and then heading down to Sunnyside Beach.

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

There are quite a lot of cool cities in the world that I have yet to visit. Maybe because I grew up in a city, when I can get away I've always craved nature, fresh air, peace and quiet and the Ocean. Because it has a little bit of everything at arms reach, I'll say Havana, Cuba.
