a bit about Hugo

What do you do and why do you do it?

I’m an architect and I love creating places.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

My first job as an architect in London. You know that Horrible Bosses movie? This was worse.

Were you born and raised in Zurich?

I’m originally from Lisbon but I left the city when I was 17 to go to University. After living in other countries of Europe and the Middle East I ended up finding myself coming to Zurich because of love.

What’s your current hood in Zurich and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

Industriequartier! It’s hype and you probably won’t need to leave the ‘hood for anything… Except for the rents.

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

I listen to everything, but mainly electronic. I’m a big fan of Daft Punk and Parov Stelarbut I never got into the Metallica vibe in high school.

You’re broken hearted – what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

Parov Stelar. I can hear his music in any place, any occasion.

What’s the best TV shows of all time?

Expanse, the Game of Thrones of the future. Here be dragons!

Name some spots in Zurich that are good for a Tinder date.

Lindenhof on a sunny summer day (the view is gorgeous) and the Dolder Eisbahn in the winter. There’s nothing like good (or bad) iceskating to make a good and fun impression.

Which public figure would you want to see “roasted”? (every public figure is fair game).

Donald Trump. Never gets old!

Who’s your hero and where in Zurich would you take them out for a serious hang?

My parents are my heroes. I take them to Alpamare everytime they’re in town. They love the water slides more than I do.

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

In any shop around Im Viadukt.

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

In Schieren. No reason to go there unless you live there.

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

Going to the Thermalbad rooftop pool. It has been too long since I’ve been there.

Where do you go in Zurich for a casual night out?

Langstrasse is my spot.

Where would you go in Zurich to celebrate some freaking good news?

To a restaurant at the Baur au Lac hotel, if my bank account allows it.

What’s your choice of transportation in Zurich and why?

My bicycle takes me everywhere on a sunny day and the tram replaces it when it rains or snows. Also, taking the tram is one of those moments where I can seat back, read and relax.

What are the Zurich spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

The view from the bridges in the Limmat facing the lake.

What are the Zurich spots tourists should run from screaming?

Zurich is not that big of a city and doesn’t have the queues in museums and exhibitions that can be found in other cities. While I can find many areas in other cities that you should avoid, I can’t find a single one here.

Tomorrow’s your last day in Zurich. How do you spend it?

After spending a moment at Lindenhof looking at the city from above, I would spend the next few hours at the Volkshaus Hamman to relax and would end up after meeting my friends at Les Halles for food, drinks and an enjoyable time.

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

Lisbon! Not because it’s my hometown but for the colour, the sunny days, the food and the energy.
