a bit about Stephan

What do you do and why do you do it?

I’m an interaction designer working on google calendar – and I’m simply in love with interface design.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had and why was it so effing bad?

Probably my first job: being a paperboy was horrible. rounds and rounds of walking around delivering a piece of paper under all weather conditions really sucks -_-

Were you born and raised in Zurich? If not, where did you grow up and what brought you to Zurich?

I grew up in southern Germany at the lake of Constance – that’s about an hour from Zurich. I used to work here for 4 years and after a journey via Ravensburg and Hamburg, I finally moved to Zurich in 2016.

What’s your current hood in Zurich and what’s the best/worst thing about it?

I’m living in district 1 – it’s a really calm and historical neighborhood. the building I’m living in was built in 1560 – and it’s one of, if not the oldest street in Zurich. Something bad? Sometimes it’s too calm – and super posh!

What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of music do you absolutely HATE?

Mostly depends on my mood and varies from indie, rock, pop, minimal to classic, jazz and singer/songwriter.

You’re broken hearted – what tracks does your heartbreak playlist consist of?

‘freundeskreis – mit dir’ – that’s the one song I listen to on repeat for days

Name the best TV shows of all time, and what makes them so good?

TV shows keep getting better – but I’d say ‘stranger things’ and ‘Westworld’ are pretty awesome atm.

Name some spots in Zurich that are good for a Tinder date.

What about a romantic walk through the old town and a picnic at the lake? The architecture and scenic views are gorgeous. You’ll get extra points if you point out specific highlights like the birthplace of dada or the Centre Le Corbusier.

Who’s your hero and where in Zurich would you take them out for a serious hang?

There are so many inspiring people on this planet – I really can’t think of someone specific. I’d take them to my favorite restaurant – La Lumiere – and spend hours on their terrace, eating great food, enjoying lots of good wine and having deep conversations.

Where do you buy those fabulous clothes of yours?

I fell in love with scotch & soda ages ago – and always go to their main store.

What’s the area/ spot in town you’ll never be caught dead in?

Umm. I guess you’ll never see me in those fancy clubs, where all dressed-up people spend their weekends. Too chic for me :/

What’s the thing you LOVE to do in your city that you never get to do?

Zurich is so close to nature – you can go for a hike every other day. And I actually love spending time in the nature, but for whatever reasons, I never go hiking 🙂

Where do you go in Zurich for a casual night out?

In one of those easy bars in district 4 … depends on my mood, the people I’m out with and my appetite.

Where would you go in Zurich to celebrate some freaking good news?

At home – I love my apartment – and there’s nothing better than being surrounded by my best friends, opening a nice bottle of wine and telling everyone the fancy news.

What’s your choice of transportation in Zurich and why?

You can simply walk everywhere – It’s a tiny city (but still the biggest one in Switzerland). I really love meandering around, finding new spots, streets and paths every other time.

What are the Zurich spots a first-time visitor can’t miss?

You totally have to go to the lake – sit at the Quaibridge close to Bellevue – enjoying the beautiful view.

Tomorrow’s your last day in Zurich. How do you spend it?

One last swim in the lake, one last beer, one last dinner …

What’s your favorite vacation city in the world and why?

Hamburg! I lived there the past 4 years and it’s still city of my heart. The harbor, all the small bars, my favorite cafés … that city has everything I need.
