As I see it, Hapoel Tel Aviv is the most hipster soccer team in Israel, along with Hapoel Katamon from Jerusalem. With the Sex Pistols flag in the stands and a strong bond with St. Pauli FC from Germany, Bloomfield stadium is the place to be if you wish to experience the Israeli soccer scene. The actual soccer is shit, to be honest, but the atmosphere is cool. A tip from me: wear red - never yellow. Never. It’s hard to get a ticket for gate 5, which is mostly associated with the fans who really go mental for 90 minutes - but do try. If you can’t get that one, get into gate 7 or 8. Wear red, buy a scurf at the official club store just outside (between gates 5 and 2), enjoy the pre-game music by the most iconic Hapoel fan, Israeli singer Arik Einstein. You can grab a beer or eat some baked Israeli bread just outside on the street corner near the entrance before the game, or rather go out after the match to eat something near Jaffa’s clock tower. Don’t forget to shout loud and clear: YALLA HAPOEL!
