One of the nicest outdoor, chill areas in the city. This is a manmade island surrounded by nature trails and areas for fishing. It's a great place to bike or walk to and just enjoy the Chicago summer. On one side there's a small beach but I prefer the grassy areas or the concrete blocks which will keep the sand off your clothes which helps if you have somewhere to be after. It's just south of the Adler Planetarium and east of Soldier Field so you can make a full day of that area. I like taking my nieces or nephews for the day since they have lots of play areas. We hang outside on the water and then hit the museums, aquarium or planetarium.
