Another day trip outside of Lima that I highly recommend is Paracas National Reserve, or Paracas for short. Just a three and a half hour drive down the Panamericana, this is very popular park for both Limeños and foreign tourists alike. Paracas serves as both a preservation for the Pacific marine and coastal desert ecosystems and the ancient Paracas cultural heritage of the area. With vast landscapes, beautiful ocean views, tons of wildlife, and minimal light pollution at night, this park is a photographers dream. If you can, visit during the Peruvian summer so you can enjoy a swim in the cool Pacific Ocean. Playa La Mina is the best beach!
