I found this fountain by chance. It's located just behind the Foster+Partners Apple Store at Union Square. San Franciscan sculptor Ruth Asawa created this bronze sculpture in 1972, working together with over 100 local children who helped model their favorite scenes of San Francisco in baker's clay. There's so much heart in this whimsical yet monumental fountain. Walking all around it, you can really get lost in the detail. Extra wonderful: the mesmerizing splashes of water sound like laughter and applause.
