So this is the only non-Indian restaurant on my list simply because lunch by the Thames in the sunshine on the terrace of the River Café is one of London’s great pleasures. Getting a table isn’t easy, book in advance. But once there you'll enjoy the best Italian food using the finest seasonal-only produce money can buy, made in a neo-rustic style by chef Ruth Rogers and her team. The place is stylish and modern, a glass-fronted canteen created from an old oil storage facility by architect Richard Rogers, and dishes like the fresh nettle pasta with butter and parmesan or wood-roasted veal chop with salsa verde are to die for.
